Local art collections to complement the Stratford Writers Festival
Stratford has some of the most accessible art in the Ontario region. Why is it accessible? Because our welcoming, open, and ever-changing galleries and exhibits are accommodating to everyone from art aficionados to the greenest visitors around. Now, we want to share some of our favourite Stratford gallery locations in the second of this Discover Stratford series.
Gallery Stratford
Come see why Gallery Stratford is one of Ontario’s longest operating public art galleries (since 1967!). At Gallery Stratford, “Art is for Everyone,” and nowhere is this more true than in their large, spacious galleries that are often filled with interactive exhibits for all ages. Surrounded by beautiful parkland and only minutes away from the Festival Theatre, Gallery Stratford offers you an artistic experience steeped in local culture, regional art, and visually stunning pieces. Admission is by donation.

Shane Norrie Contemporary
Want to get a glimpse into a working studio? Renowned artist Shane Norrie opened his commercial gallery and working studio, Shane Norrie Contemporary, in historic Stratford’s downtown core. The gallery’s focus is quality fine art and fine craft created by established and emerging Canadian artists, with a variety of unique events throughout the year that Shane and his team meticulously choose to represent the artist’s vision and a collector’s interests.

Gallery Indigena
Gallery Indigena is a hub for indigenous art. Their first gallery opened in Stratford in 1970, and from there they grew to two new locations in Toronto and Vancouver. Gallery Indigena is a celebration of indigenous culture, art, history, and the talented individuals who make this gallery one of the best places to spend an afternoon. Don’t take our word for it; come see the constantly updated exhibits, show pieces, and gifts that are available in the heart of downtown Stratford.

Agora Gallery
Stratford has always been known as a destination with rich artistic values, and Agora Gallery is a space where artists and their admirers come together to explore the realms of contemporary art. At this location you will find exhibits that contain a wide variety of art, sculpture, photography, and painting – Agora Gallery’s exhibits are almost exclusively from Stratford and the surrounding area, so you’ll feel comfortable knowing that by visiting this gallery, you’re supporting local artists.
